Bridget and Michael recall a day and evening tour of Vatican City. The group had an exciting day from exploring St. Peter's dome to viewing the Sistine Chapel and other great works of art...not to mention a sighting of Pope Francis!
Today was a fantastic day! We started with a late morning and breakfast at the hotel. We then walked to the Pantheon to get some coffee - this place has become my favorite spot in Rome besides the gelato place across the street. At that same gelato place, I got coffee and Nutella gelato for a second breakfast. Then we trudged our way over to the Vatican. Quickly we got through security and hopped onto a bus that drove us around the gardens. About 30 minutes in, we had a pope sighting!!! I feel so holy- haha! After, Jill lead us through some amazing halls of art we got to sit and break while I drew my first architecture drawing of St. Peter’s with James’ help. (Shout out to my parents for telling me the attempt was good-I love them!) After climbing to the top of St. Peter’s we explored the church then got some good ‘ol burgers and shakes. Now we’re back in the Vatican for a night tour of the Sistine Chapel which I am super excited for! What a good day!!!

Dear Diary,
Today is June 7th, 2019
Hello, my name is Michael. Today is day 6 in our Rome pre-college program. Today we went to a city/country called Vatican City. This place was very beautiful. But before I get ahead of myself, let me start from the beginning.
We got to sleep in today and it was epic. When we did leave, we first went to get coffee but I didn’t want any so I just went with my buddies, Luke and Jack, to the Ferrari Store. I know that I will buy something there because it is really expensive and cool. Then we left and went to the Vatican. We went on a bus tour around the city and had a surprise visit from the Pope. He was really cool and we met him. Just kidding... we just saw him from a distance. I wanted to say hi but I didn’t. Then with our new guide, Jill, we went to the museums of carriages and “Pope mobiles."
Next, we went to St. Peter's Basilica and walked to the top, it was so big. Words cannot explain this magnificent structure. Then after taking a few excellent panoramic style pictures, AKA “panos” we went to the Sistine Chapel and saw the ceiling.
Good night now... I hope I sleep well cause my back hurts.
Sincerely, -Michael
