Ciao! The group landed in Rome, Italy this morning at 7:30AM. We wasted no time in beginning to explore this amazing city.

The first stop was to Hotel Lancelot for check in and then on to a local grocery store for some Italian snacks and freshly squeezed orange juice. Just around the corner from our hotel stands the Colosseum. We had a pleasant surprise of arriving in Rome on the day of the Festa della Repubblica, a national holiday in Italy. We witnessed a parade and a special highlight of the day’s festivities, the Frecce Tricolori- the Italian Air Force’s acrobatic patrol. The planes emit red, green, and white smoke in the sky to display Italy’s flag. Not a bad way to kick off our first experience at the Colosseum!

The group had a panini lunch and then back to the hotel for some much earned rest and relaxation before going back out to the city. We visited Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II and the surrounding area and students learned the fine art of drinking water from a Roman fountain.

Finally, dinner at a local pizzeria before settling in after our first day in Rome. We cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Addio!
