"Wishes at Trevi"

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

Student blogger Ryan shares the group's adventures of making wishes at Trevi Fountain, viewing priceless artworks at Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, climbing the Spanish Steps, and exploring the Catacombs di Priscilla.

Waking up fresh and ready for a day without classes (though we were all sad to see Professor Vitti leave yesterday), we headed out to the Trevi Fountain. Though packed with other tourists, the site was still an awe to behold!

Libby, Fallon, Kayla and Molly pose around the fountain, and many of us tossed small change over our shoulders in hopes of making a wish come true.

Our stoic (unofficial) prime navigators, Alex and James, survey the scene, taking in all the noises and sights of the crowds around the beautiful fountain.

After the Trevi Fountain, we trekked to the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, an art gallery of the Pamphilj family. Kayla and Libby pose for a picture.

At noon, we headed to the Spanish Steps and were left to wander around the various shops in the area. What an adventure!

After regrouping, we headed up the Spanish Steps (all 138 steps) and went to the nearby park to sit down to eat.

Pasta (with an Italian name I won't even attempt) from a local take-out restaurant. Sitting in the shade of a park near the steps, the pasta was quite excellent.

(Resident Counselor James confirmed the name of this dish to be gnocchi)

The park we ate at also overlooked a local square with one of the imported obelisks from Egypt.

Our fearless leaders James and Alex with a cardboard and legionary helm respectively forging our path to the catacombs. Roma Victor!

Here, the group recovering from delving deep into the Catacombs di Priscilla. A dark, cool abode of spirits (and unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos in the catacombs), we thankfully did not lose James to the dark caverns!

Instead of walking the miles back to the hotel, we took the local metro (subway). All 9 of us who went to the catacombs stuck together on the one pole--it was a crowded compartment!
