This morning, we started off by learning about traditional Irish families and how their role within society has changed over time. We then went to the Book of Kells exhibit at Trinity College where we were able to see and learn about the history of the lavishly-decorated copy of the four gospels and Trinity College's extensive and beautiful library.
Following that, we broke off into groups and rotated between the National Gallery, National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of Archaeology. We saw everything from classic European art to the fossils of colossal animals to rocks (!!!), and, finally, we were stunned to see the actual remains of bog bodies that date back thousands of years ago.
After our busy morning and buddying up with a partner, per Kristina’s request, we were finally able to explore Dublin on our own. Each group was able to split off and find their own souvenirs. Shout out to the sweetest shop keeper that Margaret and I bought 6 rings from.
At 2:45 we boarded the bus and headed to Kilmainham Gaol, an 18th and 19th century jail. It was very interesting to learn about the history of the inmates living there just over 100 years ago.
When returning to Dublin, we had some much-needed relaxing and shopping time. Being our independent selves, we all made it to WOWBURGER at 7:00. I think that we all were very happy with the meal other than the 45 minute wait for some.
I think we are all looking forward for another amazing day in Belfast, Ireland tomorrow.
(Thanks to Ryan Peters and Lane Obringer for the insights!)
